The London 2012 Olympics
2012 became a momentous year for our business. Hanging Garden were awarded the contract, against much competition, for the equestrian events at Greenwich Park, for both the show jumping and dressage. We worked in conjunction with a fellow supplier to provide all of the dressing, both real and artificial, for the main arena, as well as the internal and external dressing for the double decker hospitality marquee.
The build up involved much planning and a detailed growing programme in order that we were able to provide large blocks of colour, in the LOCOG colours for the main arena. The delivery was some 2 weeks before the events started, which also meant a comprehensive maintenance programme of regular watering and dead heading in order to keep the displays as fresh as possible.
Once the dressage and show jumping had started, a huge amount of work was then involved in changing the set up of the arena on a daily basis, due to the event programme being different for each day. This could mean in some cases working through the night to a 2am finish in order that the displays looked the best that they possibly could.
All in all, we received many excellent comments and it was an experience that none of us will ever forget!
